Archaeologists in Pompeii have uncovered an equine skeleton inside a bread-making workshop at one of the city’s most celebrated ancient complexes, opening a new chapter in the understanding of how humans and animals lived and worked together nearly 2,000 years ago.
The remains were discovered at the Insula of the Chaste Lovers, a large residential and commercial site renowned for its striking “chaste kiss” fresco, painted inside the dining room of the owner’s home.
The complex includes a working bakery, storage rooms, processing spaces, and the owner’s private residence. Researchers had previously found other equids at the site’s stables, where animals were used to power grain mills and transport the grain needed for bread production.

This latest skeleton was not found in the stables. Researchers found it in a separate room, suggesting the animal had fled there during the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
The excavation brought together archaeologists and specialists from the Applied Research Laboratory, including experts in animal remains, plant life, and human bones. This interdisciplinary approach has become one of the most important aspects of modern archaeological research at the site.

Laboratory analysis is still ongoing. Researchers expect it to reveal more about the animal’s specific role in the production complex and the conditions it faced during the eruption.
The study could also contribute to a wider understanding of how animals responded to the disaster in real time, adding detail to the reconstruction of those final, chaotic hours.
Pompeii equine skeleton suggests a desperate Vesuvius escape
Gabriel Zuchtriegel, director of the Pompeii Archaeological Park, said that Pompeii offers far more than beautiful frescoes and ancient objects.
He said it gives researchers the opportunity to understand lives that were ended by the eruption, and that this extends to animals as well as people. The horse or donkey, he noted, was found inside a house with remarkable frescoes that also served as a working mill and bakery.
Its location in a room away from the stables points to an attempt to escape the eruption. Zuchtriegel called the excavation a strong example of the daily multidisciplinary collaboration at the site and said ongoing lab results will continue to offer significant scientific value.
Pompeii continues to yield new layers of ancient life. The site preserves not just objects and artwork but the full texture of daily existence, including the bonds between people, animals, and the spaces they shared.
The equine skeleton discovered in Pompeii’s ancient bread workshop is the latest reminder that the city still holds stories waiting to be told.
Archaeologists working at an ancient Maya site in southern Mexico have found what they say is the earliest known evidence of Maya kingship and calendar use in the region.
Kenichiro Tsukamoto, an archaeologist at the University of California, Riverside, led the study published in Ancient Mesoamerica. His team analyzed three stone monuments at El Palmar, a site in southeastern Campeche, Mexico.
One of them, Stela 46, carries an inscription dated to A.D. 180. That makes it the oldest confirmed “Long Count” calendar date discovered in the Maya Lowlands.
The Long Count is a dating system the ancient Maya used to record historical events in a fixed chronological order. Before this discovery, a stone monument at Tikal held that record with a date of A.D. 292. The El Palmar inscription predates it by 112 years.
Stone monuments link Maya kingship to an ancient calendar
What distinguishes Stela 46 from earlier finds is its direct connection to historical rulers and events. A king named Ajaw K’al Ubaah acceded to the throne in A.D. 131. Some 49 years later, in A.D. 180, he commissioned the stela as part of a royal ritual.
Alongside the Long Count, the inscription also incorporates the 260-day divinatory calendar, binding the royal event to a specific ceremonial date. No earlier Long Count inscription had ever been linked to a named ruler, the researchers said.
To read the heavily worn carvings, researchers combined traditional photography with photogrammetry and a high-resolution 3D scanner called Artec Spider II. The device captures detail as fine as 0.1 millimeters (0.0039 inches). It uncovered inscriptions that scholars had previously missed entirely.
The carvings also show that the king carried two royal titles, pointing to an already established order of royal authority at the site.
Monument traces El Palmar’s rulers back 17 generations
A second monument, Stela 20, strengthened the picture of Maya kingship at El Palmar. Its text identifies the ruler who commissioned it as the 17th king in a successive royal line.
Using the estimated average reign of 22.5 years for Classic Maya kings, the team calculated that the lineage’s first ruler likely rose to power between A.D. 102 and 154. That closely matches the accession date recorded on Stela 46.
A third monument, Stela 45, records the accession of a ruler named Tz’u Chak Ahk in A.D. 342. Together, the three stelae trace a royal dynasty from the second century A.D. to at least A.D. 884, one of the longest recorded among ancient Maya kingdoms.
Tsukamoto noted that El Palmar rose during a turbulent period. Several large Maya polities collapsed around A.D. 150 due to drought, soil erosion, and political instability. El Palmar appears to have grown as a new power center in their place.
The study concludes that calendar systems did more than track time. At El Palmar, they helped rulers legitimize and hold power for more than 700 years.

When members of The New School’s Student Senate were faced with a report detailing how Hillel International was providing material and logistical support to Israel’s atrocities in Gaza, they voted on May 1 to cut all ties with their campus chapter of the national Jewish college network and to strip its funding. The student leaders hoped the school’s administration would go on to investigate Hillel’s presence on its New York City campus.
Instead, after an intense pressure campaign by pro-Israel groups, advocates, and elected representatives, the university’s administration is now investigating the student senators who voted to cut ties with Hillel.
“We were hoping that the university would act on the the evidence provided by the Student Senate report about Hillel’s complicity in genocide. They are investigating us instead,” said Ryder Glickman, who is chair of The New School Student Senate and helped produce the report.
The Student Senate acted upon the recommendations of the Registered Student Organizations (RSO) Compliance Committee, which presented a comprehensive report about the ways in which Hillel had assisted the Israeli military during its ongoing genocide in Gaza.
The report found that students from The New School and a host of other New York City-based schools volunteered at the Israeli military’s Hatzerim Air Force Base in January 2024, as part of the Hillel on Base program. “Our students are packaging a days worth of rations to our soldiers,” stated an Instagram story by Hillel at Baruch College, the umbrella organization of Hillel at The New School, alongside a photo from the airbase, according to the report.
The Hatzerim airbase reportedly has been used by the Israeli Air Force for hundreds of airstrikes in Gaza, with F-15s from the base dropping bombs in civilian areas.
In the days following the publication of the report and the Student Senate vote to terminate funding to The New School’s Hillel, the university’s administration acted swiftly to discredit the findings.
“To avoid any misunderstanding, the University Student Senate does not have the authority to determine official status, funding eligibility, or the recognition of RSOs. Our Hillel chapter remains, as it always has been, in good standing, eligible for funding, and supporting Jewish life at The New School,” said an schoolwide email sent to from the university signed by President Joel Towers, Provost Richard Kessler, and Vice Provost Robert Mack.
“By distorting a qualified student organization and characterizing it as something it is not,” the statement continued, “the [University Student Senate] is using its platform to target fellow students in a misguided attempt to hold those students responsible for the acts of governments.”
On May 3, two days after the vote, Ilya Bratman, the executive director of Hillel at Baruch College, wrote in an email to Towers and other members of The New School’s leadership that the Student Senate’s actions were “a direct attack on Jewish students.” Bratman bcc’d the Student Senate email address, and members shared the email with Prism.
“We hope to meet with you in the coming days so that you can hear directly from the students affected by this action, and so that we can better understand the university’s plan of action moving forward. The [University Student Senate] has shown no indication that it intends to step back from these egregious and deeply troubling actions,” Bratman wrote.
The New School administration and Hillel at Baruch College did not respond to Prism’s inquiry about whether university leadership and Hillel officials had the meeting.
Days later, on May 8, Glickman received an email, viewed by Prism, from The New School’s office of Student Equity, Accessibility & Title IX. The email said that the school was investigating him for an allegation that the Student Senate’s decision to cut ties with Hillel was in “potential violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 on the basis of race, color, or national origin in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.” The administration later clarified to Glickman that the university is investigating all student senators involved in the vote.
External pushback
The university launched its investigation into student senators following a string of social media activity by pro-Israel groups, advocates, media, and elected representatives attacking the report.
Glickman was called a “virulent anti-Israel activist” in an X post by Canary Mission, the secretive group notorious for doxing and targeting pro-Palestinian activists.
A string of articles by pro-Israel publications, including The New York Post and The Times of Israel, reported on The New School administration rejecting the Student Senate vote while omitting the details and evidence found by the RSO about Hillel’s ties with the Israeli military.
Two New York members of Congress took to social media to denounce the report. Rep. Dan Goldman—who recently marched in New York’s Israel Day parade featuring Israeli cabinet ministers who are wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes or have made genocidal statements about Palestinians—said the students were engaged in “hateful and vile antisemitism.” Rep. Ritchie Torres also condemned the vote, calling it “shameful” and “discrimination against Jewish individuals and institutions.” Goldman and Torres are heavily backed by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
“The fact that there was such open repression and universal condemnation of the report shows that the administration’s response was coordinated with Zionist organizations accusing us of antisemitism,” Glickman told Prism. “This is extremely worrying when we made a very basic case about international law.”
Students volunteering with the Israeli military
Hillel at Baruch, which organized trips to Israel, acts as an umbrella organization for chapters in multiple New York schools in addition to The New School, including Fordham University, John Jay College, and City College.
“Volunteer on an IDF (Israeli Defense Force) base in Southern Israel, wear IDF uniform, give back to the community on base, and explore Israel!” reads a description about the program on Hillel at Baruch’s website.
The 38-page report by the RSO compliance committee found that Hillel at Baruch organized several trips between May 2022 and January 2025 for students to volunteer at multiple Israeli army and air force bases. Hillel International also operates the Onward Israel program which organizes internship trips for American students to Israel and facilitates volunteering opportunities within the Israeli military.
The report further found that in July 2024, another post from Hillel at Baruch and New School Hillel’s Instagram account said, “Tonight, some of our onward students had the incredible opportunity to volunteer at the Tze’elim army base, where they helped prepare a barbecue for over 700 soldiers from the Oketz, Kfir, Golani and Handasa units in the IDF.”
Soldiers of the Golani Brigade’s 631st Reconnaissance Battalion were behind the March 24, 2025, killing of 15 Palestinian emergency responders that included Red Crescent ambulance workers in Rafah, according to an investigation by Haaretz.
In May 2024, a BBC analysis found that 11 soldiers of the Kfir brigade were responsible for posting photos and videos of Palestinian prisoners being abused.
By registering for the Hillel on Base program, participants also automatically register for the Volunteers for Israel (VFI) program, the report found.
“VFI is the ONLY organization that creates opportunities for American students to volunteer in Israel on IDF bases,” says a description of the program, which includes activities such as packing medical supplies and repairing machinery and equipment for military units.
The VFI program is run by Sar-El, an Israeli volunteer nonprofit organization under the direction of the Israeli Logistics Corps, a support branch of the Israeli military, establishing direct collaboration between Hillel and the Israeli government, according to the report.
“I am nauseated by the fact that I have classmates who have provided direct material and logistical support to genocide,” Glickman said.
A week after The New School vote, the student leadership of the Hillel chapter of Middlebury College, Vermont, voted to change its name to the Jewish Association at Middlebury, after growing demand from its members to disaffiliate from Hillel International and its activities, according to reporting by the school’s newspaper.

Segundo a organização, o evento de lançamento servirá para dar a conhecer o conceito do Olhão South Jazz, apresentar as primeiras novidades da programação e convidar a população a integrar este novo projeto cultural.
Com a Ria Formosa como pano de fundo, o festival nasce como uma nova proposta cultural de verão, combinando música ao vivo, experiências ao ar livre e valorização do território.
Cartaz reúne nomes reconhecidos da música nacional
A programação do Olhão South Jazz será construída através de uma curadoria artística orientada para a valorização da música, da identidade local e da experiência do público.
O cartaz da primeira edição contará com artistas nacionais ligados ao jazz e a outras sonoridades, procurando atrair diferentes públicos. Entre os nomes já confirmados encontram-se Júlio Resende, Áurea, a Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve e Sara Badalo.
Além dos concertos, o recinto integrará diferentes espaços temáticos, incluindo palco principal, palco Cantaloupe, zona lounge, área de restauração, bar, photospot e várias zonas de ativação.
A organização pretende criar uma experiência diferenciadora, marcada por um ambiente elegante e pela proximidade entre artistas, público e território.
Festival aposta na criatividade e identidade algarvia
Uma das novidades da estreia do Olhão South Jazz será a integração do Ria Market, uma área dedicada ao artesanato, às marcas independentes e aos projetos locais, reforçando a ligação do evento à criatividade e à identidade cultural do Algarve.
Com esta nova iniciativa, a organização pretende acrescentar uma nova referência ao calendário cultural da região e consolidar a imagem de Olhão como um destino associado à cultura, à música e aos eventos ao ar livre.
A organização convida ainda a população a participar na apresentação pública do festival e a “descobrir, em primeira mão, o que está a ganhar ritmo em Olhão”.
Olhão prepara-se para receber um novo evento dedicado à música, com a estreia do Olhão South Jazz, um festival novo que será apresentado publicamente no próximo dia 9 de junho, numa sessão aberta à comunidade no Parque Ribeirinho Poente.

E’ in preparazione il concerto del 6 e del 7 giugno di Cremonini. Ma in realtà, accade frequentemente che il Circo Massimo venga trasformato. Anzi, stravolto. Per concerti, appunto. Come quelli che terranno a luglio Riccardo Cocciante, Edoardo Bennato, Patti Smith e poi a settembre Jovanotti e Mobrici. Ma anche lirica e danza, cinema e spettacoli-lezioni. Perfino l’equitazione, grazie al Longines Global Champions Tour, il circuito internazionale di salto a ostacoli soprannominato la “Formula 1 dell’equitazione”. Un villaggio globale per la prevenzione, nell’ambito della Race for the Cure, la più grande maratona al mondo per la lotta ai tumori del seno. Con l’aggiunta di kermesse politiche.
Da un paio di anni si è provveduto a stabilizzare il fondo dell’invaso, così da renderlo pianeggiante e non più soggetto a piccoli allagamenti, in alcune porzioni. Una scelta motivata dagli eventi che vi si svolgono. Esclusivamente dalla possibilità che le strutture mobili che di volta in volta sono necessarie, possano realizzarsi con minori difficoltà. In compenso passeggiarvi è sempre possibile, ma forse un po’ meno suggestivo. Invece è ormai impossibile tirare due calci al pallone. Magari organizzare una partitella tra amici. Con lo stabilizzante è più che evidente che risulti impossibile.
Il Circo Massimo rappresenta un luogo di cultura, evidentemente. Per decenni utilizzato dai romani. Tutti, indistintamente. A differenza di quel che accade da anni. Ed è un peccato. Oltre che una discutibile sottrazione. Alla città, prima di tutto. Senza contare la questione della discutibile scelta di utilizzare un monumento, come si trattasse di una fiera. Di fare di una struttura antica uno spazio per tutte le occasioni. Non è snobismo archeologico. E neppure eliteratismo culturale. Piuttosto l’osservazione di politiche culturali dettate troppo spesso dal profitto. Piuttosto la consapevolezza che a dispetto di sindaci e sovraintendenti, ministri della Cultura e Presidenti del consiglio, sia diventata opinione comune che i Beni culturali siano petrolio. Da consumare. Anzi da s(vendere). A Roma, come in qualsiasi angolo d’Italia.
A Fagar assinala o Dia Mundial do Ambiente com o lançamento do programa A.Tua Cidade – Recolha Seletiva de Biorresíduos em Faro, uma iniciativa que pretende reforçar a separação de resíduos na origem, reduzir a deposição em aterro e promover uma gestão mais sustentável dos recursos no concelho.
O projeto integra um conjunto de soluções adaptadas às diferentes realidades do território, incluindo compostagem doméstica, recolha porta a porta para habitações e estabelecimentos comerciais, contentores de acesso controlado, ecocentros móveis e sistemas de compostagem comunitária nas ilhas da Culatra e do Farol.
A iniciativa é financiada pelo Fundo Ambiental e pelo programa Algarve 2030, surgindo numa altura em que a gestão dos resíduos urbanos continua a representar um dos principais desafios ambientais do município.
Mais de 80% dos resíduos produzidos em Faro continuam indiferenciados
Dados divulgados pela Fagar revelam que, em 2025, o concelho de Faro produziu 41.337 toneladas de resíduos urbanos. Deste total, 33.735 toneladas corresponderam a resíduos indiferenciados, representando cerca de 82% dos resíduos gerados.
Já os resíduos recicláveis totalizaram 5.976 toneladas, números que evidenciam a necessidade de reforçar a separação na origem e aumentar a valorização dos materiais recicláveis, evitando o seu encaminhamento para aterro.
Para Pedro Coelho, presidente do Conselho de Administração da Fagar, “o aumento crescente da produção de resíduos obriga a repensar a estratégia de gestão de resíduos no concelho”.
O responsável alerta ainda para a capacidade limitada dos aterros da região, sublinhando que “os aterros sanitários da região dispõem de apenas sete anos de vida útil”, considerando que a redução da produção de resíduos e do volume de resíduos indiferenciados enviados para aterro será determinante para a sustentabilidade futura do Algarve.
Projeto arranca em Santa Bárbara de Nexe
Segundo Pedro Coelho, a adoção de práticas de reutilização e de uma separação eficaz dos resíduos alimentares, verdes e das embalagens poderá representar um potencial de desvio de aterro de quase 75% dos resíduos produzidos no concelho.
O responsável reforça que “reduzir o indiferenciado é uma responsabilidade coletiva, de famílias e empresas, e um passo essencial para um concelho mais sustentável”.
A primeira sessão do programa está agendada para o próximo dia 6 de junho, às 11:00, na Junta de Freguesia de Santa Bárbara de Nexe, no âmbito do projeto de compostagem doméstica, marcando o arranque das ações de proximidade junto da população.
No Dia Mundial do Ambiente, a Fagar apela ainda “à colaboração de todos para a adoção de comportamentos mais sustentáveis no dia a dia, através da redução do desperdício, da reutilização sempre que possível e da correta separação dos resíduos”.
Com o programa A.Tua Cidade, a empresa municipal pretende aumentar a participação da comunidade na gestão sustentável dos resíduos e contribuir para uma redução significativa da quantidade de materiais enviados para aterro.

La bolla inizia a ingrandirsi quando proprio il collega Moltrasio più un altro, il delizioso commediante senatore Maurizio Nichetti, s’installeranno a casa del nostro per lavorare insieme alla faccia dello smart working. La commedia si gonfia con il classico meccanismo dello slowburn, dove tutto per i personaggi andrà sempre peggio fino alla fine. Scoppierà?
Capatonda non comico ma spalla funziona bene dal punto di vista cinematografico, ma al suo pubblico basterà? Moltrasio, autore della commedia e collega coattone nel cast, una ne pensa e cento ne fa. Un po’ greve in vari momenti il suo smart worker bullo e incapace con le donne, infarcisce tutto con battute da cinepanettone d’annata sì, ma narrativamente si rende funzionale a questo tutto così grottesco. Non è un grande film ma se la cava. Osservando i personaggi e la piega surreale che si prenderà ad un certo punto, è pure difficile non pensare a certe commedie francesi di follia e non-sense, dove l’umorismo passa per vie ben diverse da quelle nostre.
Però il film non è un remake, ma un’opera originalissima in sala dal 4 giugno. Chissà invece se i francesi se ne accorgeranno un giorno, rifacendolo magari un per il loro mercato. Anche i remake successivi al film, in fondo, sono una vittoria artistica e di botteghino.
Forse ci avrà giocato pure Maccio con i Masters negli anni Ottanta. Diventò comunque famoso in questo millennio con un cappuccio di saio in testa, nel video YouTube su Padre Maronno. Indossa un cappuccio simile, ma viola, Skeletor, iconico villain in Masters of the Universe. Ed è interpretato da un Jared Leto totalmente irriconoscibile, foderato da un fisicaccio blu posticcio e da una faccia a teschio tutta digitale. Il Premio Oscar interpreta a perfezione il potere distruttivo quanto certe improvvise frivolezze dello storico cattivissimo.
Quarant’anni fa il cartone animato era stato creato per vendere gli omonimi giocattoli Mattel, oggi però quanto potrebbero contare quei pupazzetti, seppur nuovi nei giochi dei bambini, infinitamente più digitalizzati di quelli che ne decretarono il successo? Ci sono anche orde di videogame e social a ostacolarne oggi il cammino verso un posto d’onore negli immaginari dei nati nel 2020 o poco prima.
Eh sì, io ad esempio conobbi e frequentai i Masters dalla prima alla quinta elementare, e come me milioni di ragazzini nel mondo. Nel marketing il binomio tv-giocattoli non aveva ostacoli mediatici né concorrenti particolari, a parte i fratelli coltelli Guerre Stellari. In quegli anni non li si chiamava ancora Star Wars. Ed erano entrambe collezioni infinite di giocattoli affiancate a cartoni e film iconici.
Alcuni gridano già al flop da prima dell’uscita di questo film pacioccone e costosissimo, 200 milioni di dollari, cifra che non sarà facile moltiplicare. Ma Travis Knight, che di miracoli già fece il suo Bumblebee (seppur spin-off il migliore della saga Transformers), e soprattutto Kubo e la Spada Magica (capolavoro d’animazione), stavolta si cimenta in un campo nuovo dove demascolinizza i muscolosi eroi originali calcando il trend dell’epoca.
La serie d’animazione Masters era popolata di soggetti rudi e palestratissimi con alcuni innesti queer, dal caschetto in rosa del Principe Adam alla codardia della tigre Cringer, nome che oggi risuona in modo del tutto diverso rispetto a prima. A parte He-Man e Skeletor, tutti gli altri hanno fisici non da culturisti, ma da rudi scaricatori.
Riproponendo la linea comica, Knight osa molto di più di Gunn nei Guardiani della Galassia. Ma a parte il confronto, questa vena di commedia nell’adventure cappa e spada magica, anzi del potere, non sempre convince. C’è pure un simpatico e inossidabile Dolph Lungren, primo fallimentare He-Man al cinema del 1987, in un cameo con il nuovo Adam Nicholas Galitzine.
Quindi sarà un successo? Per ora un grande boh, è uscito il 4 giugno e in Italia è al quarto posto, subito dopo Backrooms, ma val la pena di divertirsi con molta leggerezza ricordando i vecchi tempi con questa nuova giostra coloratissima e un po’ kitsch che farà sorridere tanti quarantenni e cinquantenni pensando alla fantasia che quei giocattoli sprigionavano nel tardo Novecento. #PEACE
Selon la société d’études Sensor Tower, ChatGPT d’OpenAI a franchi le cap du milliard d’utilisateurs actifs mensuels (UAM) sur son application en mai 2026, devenant ainsi la plus rapide de l’histoire à atteindre ce seuil.
Dans son rapport State of Mobile 2026, Sensor Tower constate que ChatGPT a été plus rapide que d’autres applications populaires – dont Google Maps, TikTok, Instagram et YouTube – pour franchir le seuil du milliard d’utilisateurs, un jalon atteint trois ans seulement après son lancement.
Ce chiffre confirme la position dominante d’OpenAI dans la bataille pour la suprématie des chatbots IA, où ChatGPT affronte notamment Claude d’Anthropic et Grok de X.
En avril, OpenAI avait annoncé atteindre 900 millions d’utilisateurs actifs hebdomadaires fin décembre 2025 et un débit API supérieur à 15 milliards de tokens par minute. La société n’a toutefois pas publié de statistiques officielles pour 2026.
Claude dans la course
Sensor Tower relève que Claude commence à gagner du terrain. Au deuxième trimestre 2026, la plateforme d’Anthropic atteint 56 millions d’UAM pour son application, soit une croissance de 640 % sur un an, à comparer aux 62 % affichés par ChatGPT.
Sensor Tower note également que les utilisateurs américains de ChatGPT ayant installé Claude au cours des trois premiers mois de 2026 ont utilisé l’ancienne application 5 % moins fréquemment dans le mois suivant l’installation, par rapport à leur usage moyen au cours des huit mois précédents.
« La croissance de Claude pourrait être portée par d’importantes avancées modèles au cours de l’année écoulée, ou par la montée en puissance du sentiment des consommateurs après l’annonce du partenariat d’OpenAI avec le département de la Guerre au premier trimestre 2026 », commente Sensor Tower.
Anthropic a déposé cette semaine un dossier d’introduction en Bourse aux États-Unis. OpenAI devrait très prochainement faire de même.

A Segurança Social lançou uma funcionalidade que promete tornar os pagamentos mais rápidos e diretos. A principal mudança está na eliminação de uma etapa que, até agora, fazia parte do processo: deixa de ser necessário emitir previamente um documento de pagamento.
De acordo com o Notícias ao Minuto, que cita informação divulgada pelo Instituto da Segurança Social, os utilizadores passam a poder aceder ao Portal da Segurança Social, selecionar os valores que pretendem liquidar e gerar as referências diretamente no ecrã.
Referências aparecem no momento
Com esta alteração, o processo passa a ser feito de forma mais imediata. Em vez de emitir primeiro um documento físico ou em PDF, o utilizador escolhe os montantes a pagar e recebe logo as referências necessárias para avançar com a liquidação.
Os canais de pagamento habituais mantêm-se disponíveis. Assim, continua a ser possível pagar através de Multibanco, MB WAY ou transferência por IBAN. Segundo o Instituto da Segurança Social, a mudança dá mais autonomia aos utilizadores e torna o procedimento menos dependente de documentos intermédios.
Comprovativo segue para a Inbox
Depois de o pagamento ser reconhecido, o comprovativo é enviado para a Inbox do utilizador na Segurança Social Direta. Ainda assim, quem quiser guardar a informação pode descarregar um PDF com as referências geradas.
A funcionalidade está também disponível na aplicação da Segurança Social, permitindo efetuar pagamentos através do telemóvel. A medida pode ser útil para quem precisa de liquidar valores em mobilidade, sem recorrer ao computador. Na prática, a novidade concentra o processo no essencial: escolher os valores, gerar referências e pagar pelos canais disponíveis.
O que muda para quem paga
A principal diferença está na simplificação do percurso. O utilizador deixa de ter de criar um documento antes de avançar para o pagamento e passa a obter as referências no momento. Esta alteração pode reduzir dúvidas e tornar o processo mais intuitivo, sobretudo para quem tem valores a regularizar junto da Segurança Social. Segundo a nota citada pelo Notícias ao Minuto, a nova experiência pretende ser mais direta, sem documentos intermédios e com referências disponíveis a qualquer momento.
Calendário de junho já é conhecido
Além desta novidade, a Segurança Social já divulgou o calendário de pagamentos das prestações sociais para junho. Este calendário permite aos beneficiários saber quando recebem pensões, subsídios e outros apoios.
O apoio às rendas é pago a 5 de junho. As pensões, o Complemento Solidário para Idosos, o Reembolso de Despesas de Funeral e a Prestação Social para a Inclusão são pagos a 8 de junho. A 16 de junho é feito o primeiro pagamento de desemprego, doença, parentalidade e ação social, bem como das prestações familiares.
Outros apoios pagos até ao fim do mês
O Fundo de Garantia de Alimentos Devidos a Menores é pago a 19 de junho. Já o Rendimento Social de Inserção e o Fundo de Garantia Salarial têm pagamento previsto para 23 de junho. O calendário termina a 26 de junho, com o segundo pagamento de desemprego, doença, parentalidade e ação social. Nesse mesmo dia será também pago o Subsídio de Apoio ao Cuidador Informal.
Para quem recebe apoios, estas datas ajudam a organizar o orçamento mensal. Para quem tem valores a pagar, a novidade está num processo mais simples, com referências geradas diretamente no portal ou na aplicação.
As inscrições para o Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio (Enem) 2026 terminam às 23h59 desta sexta-feira (5). O prazo vale tanto para quem ainda não iniciou o cadastro quanto para os candidatos que começaram o processo, mas ainda não concluíram a inscrição na Página do Participante.
De acordo com o cronograma divulgado pelo Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira (Inep), as provas serão aplicadas em dois domingos consecutivos, nos dias 8 e 15 de novembro.
Os participantes que não possuem direito à isenção devem efetuar o pagamento da taxa de inscrição, no valor de R$ 85, até o dia 10 de junho. O pagamento pode ser realizado por meio de bancos, casas lotéricas, aplicativos bancários, Pix e, dependendo da instituição financeira, cartão de crédito.
Mesmo os candidatos contemplados com a isenção da taxa precisam acessar o sistema e confirmar a participação dentro do prazo estabelecido. Entre os beneficiados estão estudantes que concluirão o ensino médio na rede pública em 2026, inscritos no Cadastro Único (CadÚnico) que buscam certificação e pessoas que tiveram o pedido de isenção aprovado anteriormente.
Para concluir a inscrição, é necessário utilizar uma conta Gov.br, informando CPF e senha. O processo inclui o preenchimento de questionário socioeconômico, envio de fotografia e escolha da língua estrangeira, entre inglês e espanhol. Também é possível solicitar atendimento especializado, uso de nome social e informar necessidades de acessibilidade.
O Enem pode ser realizado por estudantes que estão concluindo o ensino médio, egressos da educação básica, treineiros e candidatos maiores de 18 anos interessados na certificação. Estrangeiros também podem participar mediante apresentação de documento oficial com foto.
Porta de acesso às universidades
Além de servir como principal porta de entrada para o ensino superior, a nota do Enem é utilizada em programas federais como o Sistema de Seleção Unificada (Sisu), o Programa Universidade para Todos (Prouni) e o Fundo de Financiamento Estudantil (Fies).
Neste ano, o exame também passa a integrar a estratégia do governo federal para avaliação da qualidade do ensino médio, contribuindo para a produção de indicadores educacionais e o acompanhamento das metas previstas no Plano Nacional de Educação (PNE).
As provas contarão com 180 questões objetivas e uma redação. No primeiro dia, os candidatos responderão às questões de linguagens e ciências humanas, além da redação. No segundo, serão aplicadas as provas de matemática e ciências da natureza.
Os portões dos locais de prova abrirão ao meio-dia e fecharão às 13h, no horário de Brasília. A aplicação terá início às 13h30. No primeiro dia, o exame termina às 19h, enquanto no segundo o encerramento está previsto para as 18h30.
Newark, New Jersey, Mayor Ras Baraka said the city will file a lawsuit to close Delaney Hall, an immigration detention center that has sparked protests and some arrests in recent weeks. Outlets on the left have highlighted the center's allegedly inhumane conditions as well as the charges some protestors are facing, while outlets on the right have questioned the organizations backing the protests.
Why Are People Protesting? Some detainees at Delaney Hall went on a hunger and labor strike on May 22 to protest the spoiled food being served in the center, according to CNN (Lean Left bias). CNN also cited inadequate medical care, overcrowding, and unsanitary conditions as reasons for the protests. Despite Mayor Baraka's statements about attempting to close the facility, Border Czar Tom Homan said he recently personally oversaw the facility and called the accusations "stone cold lies."
Why Have People Been Arrested? At least 87 protestors have been arrested since May 26, 61 of whom were arrested for violating a curfew put in place on Sunday night. Seventeen people were arrested for assaulting and impeding federal officers, and some others have been charged with disorderly conduct. New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill joined the protests on Memorial Day, according to New York Times (Lean Left); however, after protestors threw objects, set fires, and clashed with law enforcement officials, she said, "Violent, chaotic clashes hurt everyone." The Times cited a public defender who read some of the charges and said most of the language police used to describe protestors' actions was generic, leaving the case against them "weak."
Who is Backing These Protestors? New York Post (Lean Right) that the protestors are "part of a well-funded effort bankrolled by some of the biggest leftist organizations in the country," including the American Civil Liberties Union, Indivisible, and Democratic Socialists of America. The Post drew attention to a Fox News (Right bias) investigation that found a planning document that encouraged protestors to call the detention facility a "concentration camp." The Post also quoted a nonprofit expert and former US Senate chief of staff, who said, "These are manufactured, strategic, calculated endeavors by an army of nonprofits meant to push subversive activity."

Protests erupted in Britain this week after police footage from December was released showing 18-year-old Henry Nowak being handcuffed in Southampton as he lay dying from multiple stab wounds. Left- and right-leaning media split on whether the incident was about police bias against a white victim or if the case was being used to stoke division over immigration.
The Details: Vickrum Digwa, 23, was sentenced to life in prison on Monday with a minimum of 21 years for the murder of Nowak. Digwa–who stabbed Nowak four times–is a British-born Sikh. Court reports showed he had lied to police about being racially abused by Nowak and attacked him in self defense. According the video, Nowak told police several times he couldn't breathe and that he'd been stabbed, however they didn't believe him.
'Two-Tier Policing': Many outlets on the right focused on criticism of the police response and allegations of racism toward Nowak. They quoted Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, who called the incident an example of "two-tier policing"– a term used to argue police apply double standards to different groups, protests and political ideology. Breitbart (Right bias)wrote the incident was "a case for police reform." It focused on an ongoing investigation into whether police response "caused or contributed" to Nowak's death. National Review (Right) called the incident "dystopian" and an "indictment of the modern British state," which has been "bewitched by the spell of cultural leftism." The Federalist (Right)compared the incident to George Floyd's death in 2020, writing that police "ignored [Nowak]'s pleas…because the murderer falsely accused Nowak of being racist, which apparently is a higher priority for police than the dying teen." NPR (Lean Left)negated claims that this was "Britain's George Floyd moment" with data showing black people are two times more likely to be arrested as white people.
'Right-Wing' Anger: Several outlets on the left emphasized anger specifically from right-wing groups in the UK. The Guardian (Left)framed its coverage around the reactions of European and Japanese right-wing figures, which it said was "exploit[ing]" Nowak's death. It quoted some of these leaders–which the outlet described as "populists," "far-right" and "hard-right"–blaming "mass immigration" and "leftist ideology" for increased violence toward Europeans and "silence" from mainstream media. CBS News (Lean Left) and New York Times (Lean Left) also emphasized this angle, with CBS writing, "Britain's rising right-wing, anti-immigration political movement has seized on the case to spread its message." All three outlets juxtaposed claims that police had an "anti-white bias" with Nowak's father saying he didn't want his son's death to be used to create "further division, hatred or tension."
Outlier on the Left: In an opinion for the Washington Post (Lean Left), British comedian and commentator Andrew Doyle argued that Nowak's death was a "failure of British policing." Doyle, who identifies as left-wing, also argued that "smearing people who expect equality before the law as 'far right' or 'racist' is wrong." Doyle wrote, "It is striking that the charge of racism was deemed so incontrovertible that his pleas were automatically dismissed." He also criticized Prime Minister Keri Starmer's denial of "the existence of 'two-tier policing," saying "there is nothing more divisive than the misleadingly branded 'anti-racism' policing guidelines" implemented in the UK.
For Context: According to reports, Nowak was headed home after an evening out with friends when he encountered Digwa in "a chance meeting." The judge said Digwa was wearing a small kirpan–a ceremonial dagger that Sikh's are required to wear as an article of faith–under his clothing, but also carried a larger Sikh dagger, which was used to stab Nowak. BBC (Center)reported that Digwa's defense argued Nowak was a "racist, drunk, violent aggressor," though his blood alcohol level was found to be below the drink-drive limit.

L’ho vista avere paura, piangere, sentirsi fragile… ma non smettere mai di essere una mamma straordinaria, una compagna incredibile e la persona più forte che io conosca”. Il messaggio si conclude confermando l’impegno ad affiancarla: “Non importa quanto sarà lunga o difficile questa strada, la affronteremo insieme. Passo dopo passo. E torneranno giorni leggeri. Ne sono sicuro”.
