The Pentagon has sharply reduced the number of religion codes used by the U.S. military, replacing a list of about 220 faith groups and denominations with 31 broader religious categories.
The updated system, which is expected to take effect in July, has sparked debate among veterans, chaplains, lawmakers, and religious groups over its potential impact on faith representation within the armed forces.
The new categories include Buddhism, Hinduism, Baha’i, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, and a designation for people with no religious affiliation. Christian denominations make up most of the recognized categories.
Pentagon says change is administrative
Military officials said the change is intended to simplify record-keeping and improve data collection for military chaplains. The Pentagon explained that the revised list is not meant to determine which religions are officially approved or recognized by the government.
Service members whose faiths are not among the 31 listed categories will still be able to identify their religion and include it on military dog tags, officials said.
Critics question the impact on religious diversity
The policy change has drawn criticism from some veterans, former chaplains, and religious groups who argue that the consolidation could reduce the visibility of minority faiths within military records.

A former U.S. Army chaplain said that the move raises concerns about the military’s commitment to religious diversity.
“When I raised my hand to become an Army chaplain, I swore that I would support and defend the Constitution,” the former chaplain said. “The First Amendment is the free exercise of religion for everybody. That’s what I was buying into.”
The update also arrives amid broader debate over Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and his public use of Christian prayers while discussing military operations. Some critics have questioned whether such expressions blur the line between personal faith and official government leadership.
Latter-day Saints’ designation draws attention
The revised system has also sparked concern among members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Under the new classification structure, the church appears as a separate category rather than being included among the military’s Christian denominations.
That decision prompted criticism from Mike Lee, a Republican senator from Utah and a member of the church.

Smaller faith groups lose separate classifications
According to an analysis, the consolidation removed separate classifications for numerous faith traditions, spiritual movements, and nonreligious belief systems. Those no longer listed individually include Eckankar, Heathen, Native American spiritual traditions, Rosicrucianism, Druidism, Deism, Asatru, Paganism, Humanism, Unitarian Universalism, Wicca, Shamanism, and Atheism, among others.
Defense Department officials have emphasized that the changes are administrative rather than ideological. Sean Parnell, a Defense Department official, said the military continues to place a high value on the First Amendment and the free exercise of religion for all service members.
Not since the notorious 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) provided for indefinite detention of American citizens, has the annual funding bill been as misused as this year. Embedded in the bill is an insult to every American who values our national sovereignty. The NDAA’s Section 224, the “United States-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative,” would “integrate” the Israeli military with our own, fusing technology, production, intelligence-sharing, and more.
As Ben Freeman wrote last week in Responsible Statecraft:
“The US and Israel already work together heavily on missile defense, but this provision would greatly expand coordination to seemingly every area of defense tech, including AI, quantum, autonomous systems, directed energy, cyber, biotech, and many more. It also proposes ‘network integration’ and ‘data fusion.’ In other words, the US military’s data could soon be the Israeli military’s data.”
It is hard to think of a more “America last” position than handing the keys to the Pentagon (and our intelligence community) to a foreign country.
The insanity of Section 224 is made even more clear with news over the weekend that the Pentagon has raised to “critical” the threat level of Israel spying on the United States and its officials!
We should not “integrate” our military with any foreign country or organization, but integrating with a country that is a “critical” espionage threat to our national security? How does this make any sense?
The “problem” for American lawmakers is that after the killing in Gaza and now Lebanon, the American people – particularly younger Americans – have turned sharply against the US relationship with Israel. This foreign entanglement has sucked billions from the US treasury over the decades, and it has sucked us into endless conflict in the Middle East, including the current US war on Iran.
Rather than listen to the will of their constituents, Congress has decided to defy the wishes of Americans in favor of the wishes of a foreign government. AIPAC largely controls our Congress and passing Section 224 would be a great victory for the foreign lobby.
It should come as no surprise that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu endorses Section 224. He may have written it for all we know!
Should Section 224 remain in the NDAA, it would essentially remove future Congresses from any role in determining what level of support, cooperation, and oversight should be included in the US relationship with Israel. It would be worse even than President Obama’s 10 year guaranteed US financial support for Israel. Funding would not only be on autopilot, but the US would be further drawn into Israel’s multiple wars with its neighbors. Worse even than backing up Israel in its regional wars, the wars themselves would become ours.
Americans must speak out against plans to integrate our military with any foreign country. What we should be doing is disentangling from these overseas obligations, whether they be NATO or support for Ukraine or backing Taiwan against China.
We already spend more than a trillion dollars a year on our own military and our national debt is nearing $40 trillion. Taking on the obligation to fight even more wars overseas will hasten our bankruptcy. Section 224 must be stricken from the NDAA and it is up to every American who cares about our sovereignty to demand that Congress do so.
Israeli and Lebanese military delegations opened Pentagon-mediated talks Friday morning in Washington, launching a new U.S.-brokered security coordination track aimed at preventing renewed escalation along the Israel–Lebanon border and shoring up a fragile ceasefire reached in mid-April.
A State Department official told Fox News Digital, "As we have continuously stated, the only path to lasting peace is through direct negotiations between the two sovereign governments."
The discussions mark a shift from diplomatic negotiations into direct military coordination, with talks expected to focus on ceasefire enforcement, border stability, Israeli withdrawal from parts of southern Lebanon and the role of the Lebanese Armed Forces in containing Hezbollah.
The talks come weeks after a U.S.-brokered ceasefire first reached during the broader regional conflict tied to the U.S.–Iran war. While large-scale fighting has eased, Israeli forces continue operating inside parts of southern Lebanon, and Hezbollah maintains drone and rocket capabilities, keeping tensions high along the border.
The ceasefire was extended on May 15 for another 45 days, creating pressure on both sides to show progress before the current arrangement expires.
But analysts say the central question overshadowing the talks is whether Lebanon can realistically curb Hezbollah’s military power without risking internal collapse.
"This will be the first meeting between representatives of the militaries since the start of the negotiation process between Lebanon and Israel," Ahmad Sharawi, a research analyst at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies think tank, told Fox News Digital.
Representing Lebanon in the talks is Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) commander Gen. Rodolphe Haykal, who previously served as commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces in southern Lebanon, an area where Hezbollah maintains a strong presence. Hezbollah is the Iran-backed Lebanese terrorist organization designated by the United States as a foreign terrorist organization.
"What we should expect is talks regarding de-confliction and what the expectations are for the LAF in terms of the broader disarmament plan against Hezbollah’s weapons," he said.
Sharawi said the chances of a broader breakthrough remain limited so long as Hezbollah remains heavily armed and politically entrenched inside Lebanon.
He also warned that Hezbollah’s deep support among Lebanon’s Shiite population complicates any attempt to move toward normalization with Israel.
"There’s a fear of a civil war," he said. "That also accounts for the Lebanese state’s unwillingness to disarm Hezbollah."
The talks opened as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signaled Israel intends to maintain military pressure on Hezbollah despite the negotiations.
Sharawi argued the Trump administration nevertheless appears determined to push the process forward as part of a broader effort to weaken Iranian influence in the region.
"The reason behind these meetings is that President Trump is really trying to push for a peace agreement between Israel and Lebanon," he said. "Peace between these two countries could really undermine Hezbollah and its influence in Lebanon."
Israeli analysts similarly described the talks less as a breakthrough and more as a strategic signal aimed at Hezbollah.
"The war between us and Hezbollah is continuing," Yossi Kuperwasser, head of the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security and former head of the Research Division of Israeli Military Intelligence, told Fox News Digital.
"There is no doubt the Lebanese government does not have a monopoly on the use of force in Lebanon."
Kuperwasser said expectations for an immediate diplomatic breakthrough should remain low but argued the talks themselves send an important political message.
"The purpose of these talks is first and foremost to send a message to Hezbollah and also to the Americans," he said. "Both sides are prepared to sit together against Hezbollah and signal that they are moving, even if slowly, toward normalization between Israel and Lebanon."
He argued Hezbollah has been weakened politically and militarily by the ongoing conflict and by growing frustration among Lebanese civilians displaced by the fighting.
"For years, Hezbollah portrayed itself as the defender of Lebanon," Kuperwasser said. "Now many Lebanese see Hezbollah as responsible for the suffering Lebanon is experiencing."
Kuperwasser added that while Israel supports strengthening the Lebanese army, Beirut fears direct confrontation with Hezbollah could ignite another civil war.
"The Lebanese government fears military action against Hezbollah would lead to civil war," he said. "That fear shapes everything."
The talks also come amid mounting domestic pressure inside Israel, where critics of Netanyahu have accused the government of pursuing containment rather than decisive military victory against Hezbollah.
Speaking Friday during a visit to Israel’s northern front, Netanyahu said Israeli forces had crossed the Litani River and were operating across multiple parts of Lebanon.
"We are operating in Beirut, in the Bekaa Valley, across the entire front and striking Hezbollah hard," Netanyahu said.
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s leadership is attempting to balance growing American pressure with fears of internal instability and renewed sectarian conflict.
Following Friday's meeting, the Pentagon issued a statement, saying, "Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby hosted military delegations from the State of Israel and the Republic of Lebanon to launch the security track supporting the ongoing talks between the two nations.
"The delegations engaged in productive, military-to-military talks focused on building practical frameworks for regional security and stability. The progress and tangible outcomes from these discussions will directly inform the Department of State-led political track, which is scheduled to reconvene next week.
"The Department of War deeply values its strategic partnerships with both the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF). The Department supports Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, free of armed non-state actors, and welcomes the commitment of both militaries to these historic efforts. These are essential steps toward realizing President Trump's vision for a lasting peace in the Middle East.
"The United States anticipates reconvening soon to continue the security track."
Neither the Israeli Embassy in Washington nor the Lebanese Embassy in Washington immediately responded to requests for comment.
Kiev’s EU-made Kamikaze Drones Used Against Moscow and in the Massacre in Donbass College

This wrote Business Insider. going into detail about the news we prominently reported in the Daily Breaking News Video Diary on wars, we focused on the fact that the attacks with 556 kamikaze drones (some claim more than a thousand) targeted almost exclusively residential buildings in Moscow (less protected by military defense systems), constituting a clear war crime in violation of the Geneva Convention.
But according to various Russian media reports, the same kamikaze drone is responsible for the May 22 massacre at a teachers’ college in the Lugansk Republic (Donbass), where at least 21 young teenagers died without a word of condemnation from European Union representatives, who even “self-censored” the issue during the last UN Security Council (as denounced by Russia).
Examination of the debris would confirm this. Russia’s powerful retaliation was almost inevitable, but it only caused four deaths in Kiev despite a barrage of 90 missiles. This confirms the desire not to exact revenge on the population, reiterated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov a few days ago.
“Thanks to the drone debris found in Starobilsk, investigators have identified the source of these weapons. Judging by the fragments, they were FP-1s. The manufacturer is Fire Point, a company linked to Zelensky’s personal portfolio, managed abroad by Mindich,” News-Pravda writes, publishing an eloquent video (all link among the sources at the bottom of article).
“The only Ukrainian component of this company is the assembly plant. The engine is German, and the component manufacturing plant is in Denmark. Spare parts come from the Czech Republic and England. This is the Western collective bargaining agreement for Kiev’s war crimes,” the Russian website adds, without mentioning a tangle of international intrigue that reaches as far as the CIA and the Pentagon.

Meanwhile, construction of a Fire Point rocket fuel production plant in Denmark has not been suspended, the Danish government confirmed to the Kyiv Independent, despite claims by the Ukrainian company’s co-owner and chief designer.
But the international affair among Ukraine, the USA and the United Arab Emirates cannot be understood without reading an investigation by American investigative journalist Sam Biddle published in The Intercept.

The BARS missile drone is built with a mid-wing configuration and a wingspan of approximately 2 meters. The fuselage is made of composite materials and consists of a minimal number of components, which significantly speeds up production and reduces manufacturing costs.
“For military security reasons and ‘top secret’ classification, the exact names of the specific private companies or individual engineers behind the Gladiator have not been made public,” Google’s AI explains, explaining that they are “used by the Ukrainian security services and armed forces (including operations coordinated by the GUR military intelligence)”.

A Corruption Investigation Behind the Killer Fire Proint Drones

In August 2025, it was reported that Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) had launched an investigation into Fire Point to determine whether the company had inflated the cost of components used in its products, the number of drones supplied to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, or both. Wikipedia even reports this scandal, which is now public knowledge.
Fire Point’s infamous FP-1 drone
The investigation reportedly also examined possible links between the company and Timur Mindich, co-owner of the Kvartal 95 television studio founded by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The company confirmed the existence of an investigation, while denying the allegations. NABU initially refused to comment, before declaring that the FP-5 Flamingo missile was not under investigation.
Mindich left Ukraine just hours before a broader investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) was announced on November 10, 2025.
The Arrest of Yermak, Zelensky’s Right-Hand Man, in Operation Midas
Andriy Yermak, former head of Volodymyr Zelensky’s presidential office, is under investigation in an investigation into alleged money laundering of approximately $9 million in a luxury real estate project near Kyiv. This was confirmed by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (Sapo), which allege the existence of a scheme used to invest illicit funds in four, 1,000-square-meter villas while concealing their true owners.
Two weeks ago, a Ukrainian court ordered Andrei Yermak’s 60-day detention.
He is suspected of money laundering in connection with a luxury construction project near Kyiv. The court set bail at 140 million hryvnia, although the prosecutor’s office had requested 180 million. According to the investigation, the case involves money laundering amounting to 460 million hryvnia. Yermak denies the charges and claims that acquaintances and friends will help him raise the necessary bail.
