Spencer Pratt appeared to concede the Los Angeles mayor’s race on Friday in a new video where he says “the campaign portion of my mission to save Los Angeles is coming to a close”, but declares “war” against the two candidates advancing to the city’s general election.

In the video posted on social media, Pratt notably did not contest the results of the election, despite Donald Trump’s repeated, but unfounded claims the race was “rigged”. Trump, who endorsed Pratt, called California’s elections “crooked”.

Em vez do tradicional tapete vermelho, a cerimônia contou com um tapete verde inspirado em um campo de futebol. Entre os convidados estavam a esposa do ex-atleta, Victoria Beckham, e o ator Tom Cruise, que elogiou a trajetória de Beckham e classificou sua história como um exemplo de trabalho duro, determinação e influência global.

Ao discursar, Beckham afirmou que a homenagem foi um momento “surreal”. O ex-meio-campista relembrou a infância no leste de Londres e disse que jamais imaginou receber reconhecimento em Hollywood.

Atualmente presidente e coproprietário do Inter Miami CF, Beckham também destacou a expansão da popularidade do futebol nos Estados Unidos desde sua chegada ao LA Galaxy, em 2007.

Durante o discurso, o inglês se emocionou ao falar da família e disse esperar que os filhos levem seus futuros netos para conhecer a estrela, para que conheçam a história de um garoto que sonhou grande.

Um novo estudo publicado por ODI Global, em parceria com a Transport & Environment e com dados do International Council on Clean Transportation, analisou cerca de 1.300 aeroportos em todo o mundo e conclui que as emissões da aviação continuam a crescer de forma estrutural, apesar dos compromissos internacionais de descarbonização.

De acordo com a investigação, em 2023 — o último ano com dados consolidados — os aeroportos de Dubai International Airport, Heathrow Airport e Los Angeles International Airport destacam-se como alguns dos maiores emissores individuais do planeta, somando em conjunto três vezes mais CO₂ do que toda a cidade de Paris.

O relatório sublinha ainda um padrão de forte concentração: apenas 100 aeroportos são responsáveis por cerca de dois terços das emissões globais da aviação comercial. Em paralelo, aeroportos em apenas dois países — Estados Unidos e China — representam mais de um terço do total mundial.

Europa no topo das emissões aeroportuárias

Um dos dados mais salientes do estudo é o papel da Europa. Segundo a análise, os aeroportos europeus emitem mais CO₂ do que os da América Latina, Médio Oriente e África combinados. Londres surge como a principal cidade emissora ligada à aviação, com seis aeroportos a contribuir para os vários tipos de poluição analisados — desde CO₂ a óxidos de azoto (NOx) e partículas finas (PM2.5).

O próprio Heathrow Airport é destacado como o segundo aeroporto mais poluente do mundo.

Impacto climático e saúde pública

Para além do dióxido de carbono, o estudo avalia também poluentes com impacto direto na saúde pública, incluindo monóxido de carbono e partículas finas. Segundo os autores, cerca de 20 aeroportos em todo o mundo emitem mais do que uma central elétrica a carvão individual.

A análise conclui ainda que a aviação continua fora de rota para cumprir as metas de neutralidade carbónica, mesmo com o crescimento de soluções como combustíveis sustentáveis de aviação ou mecanismos de compensação.

Críticas à expansão aeroportuária

As organizações envolvidas defendem que os planos de expansão aeroportuária em várias capitais europeias entram em contradição com os objetivos climáticos.

“Permitir que um setor dependente de combustíveis fósseis continue a expandir-se apenas reforça a sua vulnerabilidade climática”, afirmou Denise Auclair, da campanha Travel Smart da Transport & Environment, defendendo a necessidade de alinhar capacidade aeroportuária com metas de clima, qualidade do ar e ruído.

Já Sam Pickard, investigador da ODI Global, sublinha que, desde o Acordo de Paris, “enquanto outros setores reduziram emissões, a aviação continuou a crescer”, defendendo uma estratégia que inclua gestão da procura e não apenas soluções tecnológicas.

O estudo reforça assim uma tendência estrutural: apesar da pressão política e climática, a aviação mantém-se como um dos setores mais difíceis de descarbonizar, com emissões altamente concentradas em poucos pontos críticos da rede global.
