Un episodio tanto spettacolare quanto controverso arriva dalla costa di Nantucket, dove un pescatore esperto ha trascinato a riva uno squalo bianco lungo circa due metri, dopo essersi accorto che l’animale agganciato alla lenza era in evidente difficoltà. Una volta sulla battigia, lo ha immobilizzato per pochi istanti e, dopo averne compreso la situazione, gli ha rimosso l’amo prima di ributtarlo in mare.

Il video, diventato virale e diffuso dal Nantucket Current, mostra il veterano della pesca Elliot Sudal mentre sta praticando surf casting sulla costa sud dell’isola nello stato del Massachusetts. L’uomo, inizialmente convinto di aver agganciato uno dei numerosi squali della zona, si rende conto solo in seguito che si tratta di uno squalo bianco e che l’animale è in difficoltà. È proprio in quel momento che decide di intervenire rapidamente per liberarlo.

Sudal, che pesca da anni in quella zona, ha raccontato a WBZ-TV la sua esperienza: “Ho catturato più di 1000 squali sandbar e centinaia di squali dusky dalla spiaggia, e la maggior parte li ho anche marcati lungo il percorso. Non stavo assolutamente cercando quello squalo bianco, non puoi controllare cosa abbocca all’esca”

Secondo il suo racconto, la decisione di condividere il video nasce dalla convinzione di aver gestito correttamente la situazione: “Credo di aver fatto tutto nel modo giusto in quella situazione. Lo squalo era nella risacca, ho rimosso l’amo e l’ho rimesso in mare in circa 15 secondi. Bisogna capire che la gente ti guarda, rispettare l’animale ed essere prudenti. Ho dovuto liberarlo in modo sicuro e veloce. È una creatura incredibile, mi sento fortunato ad aver potuto interagire con lui”.

Incendio distrugge il mini-zoo del Jungle Box: poi la scoperta inaspettata tra le macerie dopo il rogo

Una sola sopravvissuta tra le fiamme. È la storia della piccola tartaruga che ha resistito al devastante incendio divampato nel centro giochi con mini-zoo “Jungle Box”, a Buntingford, dove inizialmente si era temuto che tutti gli animali ospitati nella struttura fossero morti.

Il rogo ha colpito nella notte il complesso situato nella zona industriale Watermill Industrial Estate, e ha costretto all’intervento di dieci mezzi dei vigili del fuoco del servizio Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Le fiamme hanno rapidamente avvolto il centro, un soft play che ospitava anche un’area con animali, tra cui suricati, gufi, iguane, tartarughe e serpenti.

Secondo quanto riportato dal “New York Post” un primo momento, i soccorritori avevano comunicato il peggio, convinti che nessun animale fosse sopravvissuto. Poi, durante le operazioni di bonifica e indagine sulle cause dell’incendio, è arrivata la scoperta inattesa: una piccola tartaruga ancora viva tra le macerie. La stessa squadra dei vigili del fuoco ha voluto condividere la notizia sui social: “Abbiamo alcune notizie confortanti da condividere dopo il devastante incendio al Jungle Box di Buntingford. Le indagini sulle cause dell’incendio sono ancora in corso. Mentre svolgevamo le indagini sull’incendio, abbiamo incredibilmente scoperto una piccola tartaruga ancora viva tra le macerie, nonostante le precedenti paure che tutti gli animali fossero morti. Un momento piccolo ma potente dopo un incidente molto difficile.”

Il rogo era stato segnalato intorno alle 3 del mattino, e una densa colonna di fumo nero era visibile a chilometri di distanza, e ha spinto le autorità a raccomandare ai residenti di tenere chiuse porte e finestre. Alcune strade della zona, tra cui Aspenden Road e London Road, sono state temporaneamente chiuse per motivi di sicurezza.
