President Trump said the loss was an example of election fraud, but Mr. Pratt did not entertain that idea. Instead, he plans to wind down his campaign but keep attacking the two Democrats who advanced.
“I didn’t get in this for political power, I got in this to expose this corrupt machine, and nothing’s changed,” Mr. Pratt said. “ I don’t have a campaign laws hamstringing me now. It’s war.”
The election will test whether voters in the heavily Democratic city want to move further to the political left to address long-running problems of homelessness, buckled streets and sidewalks and climbing rent and home prices.
Nithya Raman, a progressive Democrat who entered the mayoral race at the last minute, secured the second spot to face Mayor Karen Bass in November. Her comeback sets up an intraparty battle.
